Doha Metro, Qatar
The world’s most luxurious and modern Metro running in the Qatari capital. The new metro fits well into Qatar’s wider rail plans, ahead of 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Qatar Rail opened the Doha Metro to the public in May 2019. It is Qatar’s first-ever underground railway system, designed to improve the traffic problems and accommodate future growth in time for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which the Gulf state is hosting. “Transport and mobility are important for any city, but it becomes even more critical for rapidly growing cities where demand is increasing exponentially each year,” says Qatar Rail managing director Abdulla Abdulaziz Al Subaie.
The metro system will support Qatar’s wider 2030 strategy called “National Vision”. Doha Metro will be directly connected to the Lusail Tram and Long-Distance Rail networks, therethrough be connected to the wider Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) rail network. Put together, Qatar Rail declares that the planned national network will bring all railway in Qatar together and connect to neighboring countries to create the region’s first fully integrated rail system.
